Botany coloring book

One of my geekier Christmas wishes for 2013 was the Botany Coloring Book by Paul Young, illustrated by Jacquelyn Giuffré (Yes, it’s for adults). The book’s 100 chapters cover the basics, from plant cell structure and chromosome behaviour, through bacteria, fungi and algae, all the way to flowering plants and adaptation. One lesson per topic and a colouring activity for each– to make the information stick. Ah, just thinking about it makes the gardening season seem closer…

This weekend was perfect for getting started: extreme cold, closed roads, and my ever-worsening allergy to shoveling despite living in Canada’s 7th snowiest city.

Museum of Education

(DAY 4)

In the morning before our guided tour, we wandered around the streets of Ypres and paid a short visit to the Museum of Education. A quote from the tourism website:

This museum is housed in the former Saint Nicholas church, a unique Construction in Flanders. The Municipal Museum of Education outlines the history of education in Flanders from the middle ages to the present day.
