Luckily the snow didn’t last.

At war against snow
I’ve been working at this for at least a week, but this afternoon I turned in to a Tasmanian Devil. I win!

Spring thaw at Ainslie
Witchy witch hazel
The good news is, the witch hazel has buds and is starting to show a few lovely orange flowers! The bad news is, snowfall was so heavy that quite a few little branches have broken off. I shouldn’t have believed the instruction “No winter protection needed“. God knows who wrote that… maybe someone in Kentucky. Hopefully the winter “pruning” will make it grow a lot this year.

Arboretum and Bruce Side Trail
On an afternoon hike at the Arboretum we stumbled upon the side trail to Inglis Falls. Didn’t go all the way to the falls, but the icy river was gorgeous!
Frontyard glacier
The 6 foot snowbank that impairs our vision when pulling out from the driveway is finally beginning to melt. It’s time to start planting seeds indoors!
Last month I bought:
- Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia)
- Catmint (Nepeta faassenii)
- Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)
Today I placed an order for:
- Bergamot (Monarda didyma)
- Anise (Pimpinella anisum)
- Creeping Thyme (Thymus serpyllum)
- Cleome (Cleome hassleriana)
- Little Bluestem (Schizachyrum scorparium)
- Big Bluestem (Andropogon gerardii)
- Blue Fescue (Festuca glauca)
- Prairie Dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis)
I hope “expedited” means my package will arrive by Friday.
