Dad’s seventieth

These pictures of dad’s birthday don’t include the ordinary:

  • opening of presents (forgot)
  • eating homemade lasagna & cake (competitive sport)
  • me, anna, eric or the 5 dogs in attendance (oopsy)

However, I do have some evidence of the aliens landing in the backyard…

The Vancouverites arrive

After four straight days of driving, Carl and Anna arrived in Ontario on New Year’s Eve. We’ve since played the board game Pandemic twice and may just try to win again tonight when they get back from their day-trip to Toronto.

Here’s a pic showing Anna in her new winter jacket:

Carl is #1

Carl finished his half marathon on Sunday in 1:48.  Yay Carl! You can also see the overall standings on the event website.

Carl’s team has so far raised a total of $4,093 for the Canucks Autism Network. Although fundraising through the Charity Challenge run has ended (previous post here), they have until July 8th to continue to raise money. They’re selling baseball tickets and I believe will be hosting a car wash as well.

My mom stole these photos from Facebook to share with me, but dear brother has given permission for me to cross-post :)

Is that a KOTR shirt? Cool.
Not sure why he's running straight toward the photographer, but Hi!
Back on track, Carl appears to be beating Jesus-- or at least one of the Disciples.

I’m very proud of my healthy (and charitable) little brother!!

Help my brother fundraise for the Canucks Autism Network

On June 24th, Carl will be running in the Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon to raise funds for the Canucks Autism Network. I want to help carl reach his fundraising goal ($500 personal goal, part of his $3000 team goal) by spreading the word about his efforts and hopefully inspiring a few more people to contribute to this worthy cause!

Please consider chipping in $5 or $10 or more. No amount is too small! You will be supporting programs like We CAN be Friends:

We CAN Be Friends is a curriculum-based elementary school program that teaches all learners the values of friendship, empathy and inclusion by using grade appropriate lesson plans, autism specific resources and awareness raising activities for the entire school.

Great stuff! As always, I wanted more info so here are a few questions I asked Carl about the marathon and CAN…

How often have you run in charity marathons?

I run for charity almost every year, started off doing 10K Charity runs and graduated to half marathons in 2008. (I ran in 2008, 2011 and this will be my third half marathon but somehow that doesn’t sound inspiring).

[note from sister: yes it does, geesh!]

How did you find out about this charity?

Found out about CAN from a co-worker. I got my branch to enter into this event as a team and we needed to pick one charity as a group, my co-worker May introduced us to this charity and as a team we all voted to dedicate our fundraising efforts toward CAN.

Why did you choose to support the Canucks Autism Network?

The reason we chose to support CAN is because a number of our clients have children with autism and we have seen the challenges they live with on a day to day basis. It feels good to be able to help fundraise for a charity that will have an immediate positive impact for people we know.

What will the fundraised money help with?

The Canucks Autism Network provides year-round, innovative, high quality sports, recreational, social and vocational programs for individuals and families living with autism, while building awareness and capacity through community networks across British Columbia.
